Default Nantucket

Made the drive up north for our second annual Nantucket Shoals trip. Fished the NS party boat last year and got our asses handed to us between being under powered with gear, tangles, etc. so we splurged a bit this year and went on a 6 pack this year. Now we're spoiled, and the fishing didn't disappoint either.

Had my 5 fish limit, including my PB 7.4 lbs among several nice 4-5 lbers, plus a bonus 4-5 lb sea bass! Pretty sure I lost "the one" half way up, but hey, to me, 7.4 is no slouch especially after what it's been locally for me this season. Threw back countless NJ keepers between 18-20". Bonus was my buddy and I brought our biggest of the day in at the same time!

Crazy the differences up there with so much less pressure, most of the big girls wanted the meat. Fluke belly and squid were far and away outproducing gulp grubs. I'm sure it depends on the day, but this day, meat was the ticket.

A trip to remember that's for sure and can't wait to get back!

You will, just take the captain/mate's advice. I know I have a problem being stubborn sometimes, but just gotta remember they're fishing every day and have seen what works best. Good luck!

The fishing authorities have made it a new law! No one is permitted to fish the Nantucket area until they have listened to the song "Nantucket Sleighride, by "Mountain" Written by Felix Pappalardi, wife Gail Collins, 1971, performed by Mountain.
Here is a fishing fact. If you listen to this song you will develop an ability to "Deep Focus" on your skills to catch fish, you will become a better fisherman, the authorities will see you and say, "no need to check that guy, he's authorized" and you will soon wear out your fillet knife.
This message is approved by the FISH POISON foundation for better fishing!

I don't know about all this, but I was there last weekend, and in between pulling in fluke & haddock, (and working through tangles on the party boat), I was able to remember every "There once was a girl from Nantucket" limerick I had ever heard since high school.

Boy what a great song that one was.. An old favorite of mine, and I am sad to say, I was around and of legal age when it was brand new.. Leslie West with that tiny 3/4 scale Gibson LP Junior, and the massive tone it had.. what a guitarist , what a great band.. They don't make rock music of that exceptional quality anymore... bob

Mountain - Nantucket Sleigh Ride Lyrics

Artist: Mountain

Album: Twin Peaks

Goodbye, little Robin-Marie
Don't try following me
Don't cry, little Robin-Marie
'Cause you know I'm coming home soon

My ships' leaving on a three-year tour
The next tide will take us from shore
Windlaced, gather in sail and spray
On a search for the mighty sperm whale

Fly your willow branches
Wrap your body round my soul
Lay down your reeds and drums on my soft sheets
There are years behind us reaching
To the place where hearts are beating
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet

Starbuck's sharpening his harpoon
The black man is playing his tune
An old salt's sleeping his watch away
He'll be drunk again before noon

Three years sailing on bended knee
We found no whales in the sea
Don't cry, little Robin-Marie
'Cause we'll be in sight of land soon

Fly your willow branches
Wrap your body round my soul
Lay down your reeds and drums on my soft sheets
There are years behind us reaching
To the place where hearts are beating
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet
