I went down there May 30th - June 1st this year. I had a great time and highly recommend it. On day one, we fished for yellowfin tuna. We went 6 for 6 on them, up to 90 lbs. We also caught a load of mahi, and hooked and released several sharks.
Day 2 was opening day of red snapper season. We each limited out on the snapper (2 per man) within an hour. The snapper were all 15-20 lbs each.
Boat: We booked through Mexican Gulf Fishing Company. Our Captain was awesome. Request Jordan Ellis. Great guy that gets you on the fish. The boat is a catamaran. Holds 6 anglers. It lacks creature comforts like a cabin or head. But with 4 350 hp Yamaha’s, it hauls out to the fishing grounds.
Accomdations: MGFC can put you up in a condo, 10 minutes from the dock. 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6.
Fish processing: Right at the dock is a processing company. Your capt and mate will clean the fish. (Included in the price). Then for a fee, the company will cut it into steaks and vacuum seal it. Then you have a choice. You can have them pack it into a cooler to take on the plane home. Or, they can ship it via FedEx to you. I checked the FedEx option. It is very expensive. Almost $500 for 62 lbs. I took the second option and paid the overweight airline charge.
I hope that this helps. Send me a message if you have any questions.
