Default family trip to the cong questions

we are taking a family trip and staying at a house on byrams cove in a couple weeks. Will have my wife and 2 boys 6&2. The 6 year old loves going out with me on the yak, we havent been on any big water mostly just the rahway river and small lakes, catching sunnies & bass, looking for turtles, newts etc. my wife has a sit in, shes good with that and the 2 year old just paddling around, bobber and worm, trout magnet, etc. im actually considering bringing the hobie this time to try for some pike/muskie action instead of the tarpon. He’s a pretty advanced 6 year old in terms of fishing as he would rather cast all day for something big than fish for sunnies, so he says anyway. my only experience on the cong is ice fishing so this is all new to me. will be calling dows and stopping by to pickup some bait, also going to drop a killie trap off the dock as the kids love to see that stuff (and free bait sometimes for me) Im even considering hitting up a guide for a half day, maybe, if the weather and wife cooperate. Appreciate any tips on fishing and anything else fun to do around there. Already planning on space farms, wild west city and land of make believe maybe.

Cooler, aerator, herring. Liveline em or send em 10-15 feet down on a slip bobber. Fish the points and bays around weedlines and rocks and you can catch everything the lake has to offer. Plenty of water and structure in Byram cove. Good luck and let us know how you do. Throw some plugs off the dock at night and you may be in for a treat. After midnight is magic hour this time of year.

And by the way. Byram Cove gets a little nuts on weekends. Bring binoculars if you have em. You’ll thank me later. Hahahaha!!!!

Hit the Windlass Restaurant up for diner. They remodeled the place not too long ago and the food is really good, not to mention a nice big bar. Here is the website https://thewindlass.com/.

Also there is a mini golf place next door for the kids.

finally got settled in, rain stopped for like 15 minutes, ran down to the dock, made a couple casts with a 4" senko and found ourselves a new PB for my boy largemouth

Today was a crappie day. Never really even ventured farther than a 10min paddle from home base but did well. My son wanted to troll so he held the rod and i paddled. He came tight on a couple slabs. Damn pickerel took 3 of my fav rapalas tho. Going to try and catch some toothy ones tomorrow.
