Henry god to see a tournament make the right decision based on weather forecast and safety, as difficult as that is for them to do. Give the Elk's / tournament committee credit. Doesn't make sense putting people in harms way and doesn't make sense having one of the most prestigious fluke tournamens in New Jersey forced to play out in the river. I assume they rescheduled, if so any idea what date?

I think they made a very big mistake waiting so long to do so. Major inconvenience to many. Should have done the right thing at the 6pm weather forecast. I’m extremely disappointed in the committee for waiting after the captains meeting was over then cancelling later. Yes the decision to cancel was the right call. But why wait intil 10 pm to do so. Lack of respect for Capt’s and contestants in my opinion. Gail warning was called 2 days prior starting at 2 pm. Yes the weather people are wrong quite a bit. But how many people were tortured to make their decision to fish or not all day , how many people got annoyed at their charter captains for not cancelling . I believe they have done themselves and the tournament a disservice by dragging their feet.

I just re-listened to the voice mail they left me last night at 10:03 pm It was “coast guard recommendation” that led to cancellation. The Elks committee for whatever reason was willing to let this tourney play out in the river. I agree with you Joey, not a wise decision to take so long to make the right call. In addition, the east winds vs the outgoing tide would have been interesting at the mouth of the inlet for those trying to come in or out of inlet around 6am today

Joey good points. Actually heard it was the Coast Guard who forced their hand so if that's right quite possibly the decision was forced on them. Either way, it did cause a lot of angst to people making prepartions to fish. Maybe fluke tournaments should follow the lead of what billfish tournament do, choose 3 out of 5 days but for fluke tournments choose 1 out of 3 days anglers choice, Friday though Sunday. Not a perfect option since it would add some issues but would certainly help address weather issues like today and prevent decisions being made for the wrong reasons.
