Default Fishing Charities?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a charity that could use donations?

My father passed recently and my brothers and I would like to have donations made to a local fishing-related charity in lieu of flowers if possible.

Is SSFFF still active? Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Great gesture and sorry for your loss. I am sure your father will be proud of all of you whatever you choose.
can you tell us more about your dad and his fishing preferences?

SSFFF and/ or RFA -NJ are great choices as we have many fishery issues left to fight.

Also I would recommend Heros on the Water
https://heroesonthewater.org
They have a NJ Chapter that is well supported on this site and a great way to give back to those that fight and have fought for our freedom. I know Jon Devin on this site was and probably still is a huge part of this.

My best to you and your family and let us know what you choose so we can add to it as well.

My father was a lifelong fisherman, although in recent years he was not able to get out very much.

Through the years we fished up and down the Jersey Shore from Highlands to Cape May, from party boat fluking to charter fishing the MidAtlantic tournament. We fished inshore and offshore up and down the East Coast and we frequently took trips to OBX to tuna fish in springtime. I think that he enjoyed fluking right here in NJ more than anything though (hence SSFFF).

Thank you for the condolences and I appreciate the recommendations. At the end of the day I’d like to make sure whichever organization may get donations is one where the funds won’t get lost in a giant corporate charity and that they are used to help conservation or to help make fishing more accessible (or to help vets in the case Heroes).

I will be sure to follow up with whatever my brothers and I decide.

Thanks

I am sorry for your loss. I am sure whatever charity you choose, your father would be proud.

My dad is a participant and a volunteer. They do a lot of good things for veterans, some of whom are severely disabled.

Boating Education and Rescue is a 501(c)3 org that works with vets and has a youth fishing club in Ocean county. All of the activities that they provide are free of charge to the vets and the kids and families of the fishing club. They work solely on donations. You can see them at www.boatingeducatinandrescue.org
