Grateful Dad 6/4- Keyport
Had Grateful Son Andrew and Aidan out today to finish where we left off yesterday. Much better conditions to start the day, with a very slow drift.
We stayed just outside the sailboats the whole time, and managed a pretty steady pick, with 2 keepers coming out of the bunch. All fish were taken on the Wonder Rig with a live killie. That must have been the trick today, as we didn't see much action on the numerous boats that surrounded us. We decided to pack it in around 1pm, when the showers started.

That Wonder Rig works wonders. It's good to have action close to home. Nice job guys.

Re: Grateful Dad 6/4- Keyport
I was out on the Misty Morn today, wanted to get killies but the NS bait and tackle shop on Rt. 35 was closed (daughter's wedding). I ended up getting my limit out of the 4 I boated (4th was just short)-all on single spearing. I feel I would have done even better if I had killies as the drift was perfect for them early before the wind picked up out of the east.

Re: Grateful Dad 6/4- Keyport
Basically its a small bucktail jig with no hook, followed by a live killie on a tiny hook, all off a 3 way swivel.. It is supposed to be an unbeatable rig for rivers and nearshore bay waters, not quite as effective in deep channels or the ocean.. Lots of guys making impressive catches with the rig, I am sure it works great,, bob

Re: Grateful Dad 6/4- Keyport
It is what Bullet Bob says, I just modify mine a little. I do not cut the hook off my bucktail, and hang a strip of squid on it. I use a size 1/0 hook, although the "original" wonder rig calls for a #4.
All my fish came off the killie, none on the bucktail, although I occasionally find my squid chewed on, so the fish know it's there.

Re: Grateful Dad 6/4- Keyport
I was in my kayak Sunday near the sailboats jigging gulp. Didn't get one bite the whole morning. Then the wind started to blow.
