Default NJMFC Sets FLuke Regulations

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is it:

NJMFC SETS 2017 SUMMER FLOUNDER REGULATIONS - As anticipated, the NJMFC set the fluke regs at their meeting this afternoon. The season will begin on 5/25 and extend through 9/5 with a 3 fish bag limit at 18". Those fishing Delaware Bay will be allowed 3 fish at 17" while those fishing Island Beach will be allowed 2 fish at 16" with the same season.

Were you at the meeting today? ( that was held at a convent location and time)
If so did they hand out the KY jelly at the door for free or did they charge you?

What a joke. Plenty of fluke out there and they want to cut everything. Typical government bull. Said before and i will say again. Some one did not get their palm greased. Did the commercial boats suffer. Probably not

Gee Paul Haertel what a surprise! You, John Toth (JCAA, NJOA and SWABC), Sergio Radossi all talked tough. NJ should of had the balls to stand up to these guys and rolled the dice. Being "out of compliance" would have cost us, a shorter season/bag limit, and at the very worst, a shut down of the fluke fishery in our state for recreational AND commercial--but for once, put us on the same playing field as those on the well funded commercial side. What a shame!

I hope others here will join me in 2017 and support all the site sponsors on njfishing.com--these charter and head boat captains need us more than ever!

Bill

Thank you Paul for attending the meeting and for providing the results. While this was not the outcome most wanted, I am convinced that our collective actions did have an impact. We were successful in maintaining the 18" size limit off the coast, 17" in Delaware Bay and 16" in IBSP.
The compromise was a shorter season but I am ,as always, hopeful for a good season and will be fishing most every weekend on ( mostly)sponsor party and charter boats, buying bait and tackle at local shops, as well as breakfast and lunch in local establishments.
I have been coming to the shore since I was a baby and have lived here most of my life. I still get excited every time I drop a line into the water. Ya never know what's down there!
