Default Lake Champlain mixed bag

I headed up to the big lake on April 27th for a two day trip with old friends. We were targeting pre-spawn smallmouth and we happened to hit the timing just right. The big girls had just come up to check out the spawning spots. On Thursday we got got 70 smallmouth up to 20" and 4lb 11 oz, 30 pike up to 12 lb, and 30-40 white bass. I had never caught white bass up there, but these guys were a lot of fun. They were attacking our jerk baits and put up a good fight. They were 12-14 inches and weighed around 2 lb. They were fat little butter balls. I have fished there many times but I have never seen numbers of quality pike like we had. Usually I get hammer handles, but most of these fish were over 30 inches.
The second day was winder and we had trouble finding fish in the same spots. We got 20 in the first 2 hours then hit a dry spell. We searched 4 or 5 spots, but only found a pick. Around 1 the sun came out and we found the mother load. We had many doubles and 5 triples/ Between the bass, pike, and white bass we quickly put 90 more fish in the boat.
This was the first time that I used Mick as a quide and I can't say enough good things about him. He made our life very easy by handling all those fish. He knew the lake very well and moved the boat when needed. If you want to see some pictures and check out the quide go to lake champlain angler fishing charters.
