Gambler 24hr tuna Fri/Sat
Mike took us for a long 120+ mile ride to, I think the Jones canyon, NE corner of Hudson to beautifully clear, deep blue 71.7* water. Did two drifts @ 1.9 kt across the deep--both to no avail except for a fair # of largish, catch-able squid. Then anchored before dawn & clouds on the western horizon glowed pink from Long Island--we had starlit skies. Had breaking water somethings as they were way too far off to identify. Finally after daylight, now cloudy, had a quick, small flurry, one 50-60# YFT boated-two lost(me-1). Before that a 120-125# mako fought and boated--guy deadsticked to light up(10-20 sec)--go figure!! One big blue dog brought up to cut-off... Went pot-hopping around 7AM-every pot produced--largest 10-15# down to just above chicken size. Mike kept us out an extra hour-headed in @ 10AM, docked an hour late @ 4PM amid very overcast skies and scattered showers. Everyone went home with some variety of table fare. As always Thanks to Todd(2nd capt), Chris, Nico & Jill(galley girl) for their expertise & camaraderie. Almost everyone stayed at the rail for the whole trip. Thank you Capt. Mike for going the extra mile-literally and staying the extra hour for all to catch...
