Default muddy vs. clear lakes?

I like to fly fish for bass with poppers, on the surface, but I find that Echo Lake, my sometime favorite, seems to muddy up by August. Are all the lakes pretty much the same that way? (E.g., Canistear, Oak Ridge, etc)

Do you just fish the watershed?

Most lakes I know are- sometimes some small ones aren't but it's hit or miss depending on rain and wind- echo lake is usually not awful thou
