Default Fishing Report - Tenakill Creek

Since my return to fresh water fishing, I thought I would search out some new local areas to fish with my son. I figured I would try this small stream that's stocked. Not know too much about it, I went to propbably one of the most popular spots. thnking this creek was small there wouldn't be much pressure on the fish there...little did I know. We fished the Hardenburgh Ave Bridge area for a couple of hours. Catching 3 trout on trout magnets. Water was very muddy/dark Hard to really see fish or bottom. Was nice to catch and release some decent fish.

If you are a carp or sucker fisherman this creek is a gold mine! Some big carp and suckers in pretty shallow water...and BIG!
Very muddy bottom and slow moving water - I see why they only stock 100 trout in this creek. Fun none the least.

Ahhh!!! A Tenakill Creek report!!!! I love it! I grew up on this creek and fished the whole thing from the Tenafly headwaters to where it dumps in the Oradell Res. in Closter and everything in between. I caught most of my very firsts outta that trib. So many memories...Living in the area this whole time I also, unfortunately, witnessed the siltation and old pools that used to hold LM, panfish, etc...that are now just silted over shallow bottoms from all the east hill development. If you go out there again, Take a walk through the Demarest Nature Center/Wakelee field area section....there are still a few holes out there with fish in them.

Thumbs up Re: Fishing Report - Tenakill Creek

Thanx for the report ! Suckers and carp are a dime a dozen, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I was thinking the same thing, I grew up 200 yards from tenakill creek ( we called it the Tenakill brook) in Closter, and I caught my first trout and carp here. In all my days i have NEVER seen a fishing report for tenakill! so thanks for posting ! I know they still dump stockies near the bridges, but i think only carp and catfish can hold over. pretty silty and mucky stream. you are correct once closter and tenafly built up, everything became lawns and landscaping , tenakill brook silted right up. pretty nasty. untold pounds of plastic ends up washing into this river also. ive seen snapping turtles in here the size of a small fridge. still worth a look around
