Default Tampa FLA Fishing

Me Dad @ 75 yr and I hit the bay looking for action. The group made "white bait" and started fishing. Lots of action with our first snook each, ending up a mixed bag of speckled trout and Spanish mackerel. Released more fish than we took home, but great day on the water. Nothing like fishing under the FLA sun!

Caught my first Tarpon in the shadow of the Tampa Bay Suspension Bridge..

Funny I still don't know and no one I've ever talked to will tell you what "White Bait" is....

I've asked several people down there over the years and the conversation goes something like this:
- Them: In southern accent ... " We need to get us some Hoo-whieyt-bayyeet"
- Me: NJ accent "So what exactly is White Bait???
- Them: In Southern Accent... "Well....... It's Hoo-whieyt-bayyeet".

End of sentence and long pause as it to say are you some kinda Mor-On, it's Hoo-whieyt-bayyeet!!

Still don't know what White Bait is to this day......

Glad you and your Dad caught some fish and some White Bait and made some memories. I envy you and wish I had the same opportunity with my Dad...

Mr Zagorski: Whitebait in Tampa? I don't have a clue but I can assure you it is eaten in England and they are about the size of spearing in mid July here. It is deep fried (what isn't over there?) and tastes a bit better than you would imagine.

I fished with a family friend on his boat a few years back for snook at night around docks with underwater lights. Had great action with snook up to 34" on green backs. Also fished the Sunshine Skyway pier caught flounder, sea trout, Spanish macks and sheepshead. I think it was only $4 to fish the pier and you don't need a liscense. It is open 24hrs.

Nice job! Looks like fun! :-) I've been on a couple bottom fishing trips from Tarpon Springs, but nothing to speak of besides grunts, a hogfish and some other pan fryers
