Now's your chance to suggest ways to improved the Access-Point Angler Intercept Survey (APAIS). The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at the United States Department of Commerce (DoC) uses the instrument to ask recreational saltwater fishermen about when and where they fish, what they catch – and about themselves so it can try to figure out who is fishing. NOAA is not proposing any changes but will consider suggestions made by the public until Nov. 9. NOAA announced the information collection in the Federal Register of Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015.
The survey is required under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation & Management Act and the period reviews are required under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. Send your comments to Jennifer Jessup, departmental paperwork clearance officer, DoC, Room 6616, 14th St. & Constitution Av. NW, Washington, DC 20230;
JJessup@doc.gov). Refer to Office of Management & Budget Number 0648-0659. For a copy of the survey or other info, contact Tom Sminkey, Ph.D., (301) 427-8177,
