Smile Anyone else fish Moxon Pond in Watchung Mt. Reserve

So I managed to squeeze in almost two hours of fishing this morning and decided to try Moxon Pond. I had only fished there once before with not so much as a nibble but wanted to give the place a second chance. Was already mentally preparing myself for the skunk as I wrapped up with not even a sign of life in the pond when I hooked this decent Bass, pretty sure it was a small mouth, it sure fought like one (hence why it is covered in leaves, the sneaky SOB escaped my grip and had me chasing him around like an idiot). In the end he was returned to the water a bit dirty but otherwise no worse for wear. I doubt I will ever fish that pond again, as I don't think the fishing is ever 'great' but the spot itself is very scenic and private.

LM. Aside from everything else LM are dark green, almost black on top with white bellies. SM are various shades and configurations of brown. LM have that line along the side while smallmouth can have bars but never a line.

Thanks! As soon as I caught that one I came to the conclusion that I could fish that place for weeks and probably not get another bite let alone a decent bass so I decided to leave on a high note (and before I started receiving the standard "you said you'd be home by now" or "every time you go fishing you get home late" calls from the wife).

.

Interesting. I drive past that pond all the time, but never stopped to fish it. It's not obvious where to park and I wasn't even sure it was part of the park or if it was someone's backyard. I can see houses there.

I grew up in that area and fished Surprise Lake a lot. It appears they lowered the lake a lot with the new dam. When I drove past the lake on WR Tracy Drive all I see is dry land.

I confirmed before I fished it that it is part of the park and therefore fair game. Park right on New Providence Rd. about 50 yards before the turn into the park (W Tracy Drive). There is a trail to the pond but even if you can't find it there is not much undergrowth and easy to just find your way. The far side has lots of downed trees in the water , shaded in morning, and the depth seemed to range from 3-6 ft, so I focused my efforts over there.

Surprise lake was drained last summer to fix the dam and shoreline. Not sure if that is why still low or just fact that not much rain recently. Haven't tried fishing it this summer.

LMAO-I get that from the wifey every time I go fishing! I think that their mother's train them to say that....unless I take her with me. In that case she roots for the fish not me!
