Default Fishfinder Help

I'm looking for a cheaper (<$200) fish finder to put on the back of my jon boat can anyone give me a recommendation. I've had Hummingbirds in the past but I'm wondering how some of the other ones are.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I just picked up a Lowrance Elite 3x for my kayak. Color display and seemingly good quality for $100. Have yet to try it out though so I'll have to let you know how I like it. I also currently have a Garmin Echo 100 on my 14 ft boat which does the job nicely. It's black and white display though and I personally feel like the Elite 3x will be the better overall value.

I've been using a huminbird that was 69 dollars at Walmart for about four years and i've caught a lot of fish with it. I've tried 2 more expensive color units with side find and gps. I have ended up returning both of them. They didn't find anymore fish they took up all my time trying to make them work properly. I didn't like spending my fishing time looking at a computer. Although for the type of fishing I do a GPS can be handy. I also didn't like my ff costing more then my motor. The day after I took back the latest one. I was at Walmart and as usual walked through the fishing isle and there it was for 79 dollar marked down from 199 a lorance mark 4 hdi. (Carma i guess) All the basics that I like 83 and 200 hz transducer for standard sonar 120 degree veiw and a GPS. It's not color, but that's not important to me. I think what I'm saying is, figure out the basics that you need and forget about that other stuff its just something to take your time up while you could be fishing. We will see how it works out, I haven't had it out yet. The unit can be had for 150 or less on line, I just couldn't pass it up for 79.

I'm looking at this guy right now and I don't see anything that says the transducer comes with it. Do pretty much all of the major brands come with the transducers? I haven't bought one before, my previous ones came with the boat.

The transducer will usually come with the transducer. If you're interested in the DSI unit and are willing to spend just a bit extra you can upgrade to the elite 4x, which has both DSI and regular downscan. It may be good if you're not sure if you're going to like the DSI.

I have a X4 lowrance for sale in classifieds thats brand new never used everything is included and its a good unit and cheap

If your gonna spend 200ish on a finder just get the biggest screen you can for the money and dont worry about DSI and similar, it doesnt help on a small screen.

Im an all out humminbird guy.. You can get one with side imaging for under $500... if youe looking just for a normal sonar then there are a lot of options for you. I'd go with HB though.
