Land locked salmon
anyone ever heard of anyone having success fishing for these on aeroflex? I've tried a few times but only end up with every other species in the lake. I want to go again next weekend but there isn't much information on it.

Re: Land locked salmon
I've picked landlocks in New York. Last trip was on the Schroon. 10 miles in canoes.... half a dozen salmon along with multiple browns and rainbows.
That was before the kayak craze. 2 people in our party almost drowned near the end of the trip.(unforseen whitewater w/o lifevests) The river was scouted beforehand, but a section near the end was obscured from our view. One of the most memorable trips of my life. Starting point was near Huggins Brook. We put out near Warrensburg. Absolutely amazing fisherie! We even tried for lakers in some of the deepest holes. First landlock came from Maine tho. Dolby Pond, which is the beginning of W.Branch Penobscot. I'm pretty certain that the salmon stocking didn't quite take @ Aeroflex... I could be wrong.

Re: Land locked salmon
Like driverrat stated, schroon is amazing. Ice fished the lake for 3days straight last feb. No landlocked but we pulled up nice lake trout and I broke off a native northern pike of unknown size.

Re: Land locked salmon
Waywayanda stocks landlocked as well. I believe there's been some success reported in previous threads.

Re: Land locked salmon
If you are on Facebook, follow Andover Hunt and Fish. They put up pictures of Landlocks caught recently out of Aeroflex.

Re: Land locked salmon
Lake George NY has a landlock stocking program that has been on the down fall tje past 10-15 years but has recently began to recover. In the 70 lg was salmon counrty. Introduction of lakers and soon the salmon began to get sparse. Problem big lakers eat everything. NyY stocks salmon in lg yearly but it has not took hold back. Problem was the 7 inch stockers got eaten by lakers before they even had a chance. Rumor they now stock less salmon but biggger sized giving them a chance and it seems like it has helped. I was only lucky enough to catch one in 30+ years up there bit have only really fished for em the past 5 years.
If you want lakers they are up there in #'s and are decent sized. I think the NJ is facing a similar problem but here i beleive its the birds getting the small stocked salmon.

Re: Land locked salmon
well i'll be staying in nj so it'll have to be one of the 3 lakes here that have them...i thought aeroflex would be the best bet since it's smaller than waywanda (i think) and i've never once been to waywanda and know nothing about it...aeroflex at least i've fished with mild success for bass and trout.
so chances are they've taken better hold at waywanda? I didn't consider tilcon since they only just started putting them there, but maybe if they're putting bigger ones there... |

Re: Land locked salmon
LL Salmon are a very tempermental breed very few states having any real good success stocking them..But they are out there...To target them is probably a pretty tough task, trolling [probably best bet using basic trout lures spoons spinners in smaller sizes. good chance you will be rewarded with a brown trout or a rainbow, which isn't too bad a trade off..Waywayanda is bigger than Aeroflex, but its not a huge lake, trouble with both lakes once the state took over the crowds came and the great fishing of years ago has disappeared, but the stocking presents the chance to catch real sporty fish which the LL Salmon is..Want to catch one best bet Lake Winny in N.H. or lake Champlain either off NY side or Vt side..Salmon of size been taken in these lakes last few years..Good luck in your quest..It will be a formabile opponent..

Re: Land locked salmon
I got 17 one day trolling Cayuga Lake. they were 65 down over 120 feet of water. the water temp at 65 feet was 54 degrees. I was trolling flutter spoons 50 feet back from the rigger weights at 1.5 mph. cool fish to catch.
