Default Marlin, Eyeball and Yellowfin

Ran our first Canyon trip of the year Saturday and had a very good trip. Started on the troll and went 1 for 2 on whites then picked a Yellowfin on a way-back Google-eye before switching to the chunking melee. Started picking Yellowfin on the drift (average 60#)as the bite picked up we jigged a slob that nearly spooled the little 16 shimano that was bumped up to 20 pounds of drag. After 2 hours we were stalemated @ 90 feet and very hard to move a big fish on what i would call a Striper rod. Then it gets worse the rod snaps and the fish drops to 120 feet. The only good thing is the fish was as tired as us and we slowly beat him over the next hour. In the end the 263 pound bigeye came through the door after breaking the rod, bending the jig and breaking the tip off of the hook. The guys did great keeping steady pressure on a fish that should have gotten away a few times. This was enough to send us on our way for a nice moonlit ride home with our Bigeye and 6 yellows on good ice. We probably would have doubled our yellowfin catch if we didn't spend 3 hours on the bigeye but its all good and glad to see an August bite again. I will try and post pictures here if not there on our Facebook page.
We will be doing a few open boat trips coming up so if your interested and want info call or text me @ 609-290-8900
Thanks, Mike

Outstanding job on the slob Mike and crew. Congratulations on a great trip.

Notice the length of the pecs , as u can see not always long enough to establish species. , thus many say serrations on liver best method to be absoulete! However that football body is where I would start to say BE !
However sometimes hard to say for sure !!

We did check the liver and it was serrated. fish is definitely a Big Eye. Wouldn't have caught that fish if it wasn't for an top notch crew and Captain Mikes boat handling. When that fish finally came up after three hours fighting into the dark on a Talica 16 with a 60 lb top shot and broken rod...............

i think you guys mean 'striations'. It's a series or pattern of grooved lines or channels that tend to lay parallel. BFT have a smooth underside of their liver. BET have the striated underside of their liver.

Also, the pec fin with a BET extends past the 1st dorsal and often into the line of the 2nd dorsal. And you can't mistake the mongo eye and GIRTH lol...

The story behind that fish is nuts. Well played, sir...
