Reel Class Thursday 7/17 Bottom Report
We had another open bottom trip today with 5 anglers. Broke the inlet just after 6 and it was beautiful despite a little swell.
Got out around 15 miles and we found the NE breeze a little puffy, kinda made it a little sporty but nevertheless we got set up and got on the fish right away.
First spot in 125' we had Mostly medium ling with some smaller ones thrown in, + 1 super jumbo flounder - overall the bite was OK. Made another move to the south in the same general depth and had more of the same. Around 10:30 we tried going off further but as we got out past 20 miles it was getting a bit nasty, so we retreated inshore where the wind wasn't nearly as bad and the fishing was almost as good.
Fished a few wrecks in the 75-90' range, and picked ling and a few seabass off all of them.
One major change was the water got a lot warmer - up 10 degrees from last week. That could explain NO cod and just 1 flounder for us today. We wound up with ~75 ling, a half dozen seabass, and a raven and the one jumbo flounder. Fair day of fishing - the guys plugged away all day and were rewarded with nice bags of fillets by day's end!
