NY Phasing in Boater Safety Certificates for boats

As of May 1, 2014 NY begins phasing in Boater Safety Certificates- like Jersey did 10 years ago.

Currently ANYONE over 18 can operate a power boat anywhere in New York State with no Certificate. Jet skiis are different.

New York also allows a 10 year old to take the Course and operate ANY size power boat except a jet ski.

So those of you relying on that quirk to avoid the course in NY waters- that loop hole is closing.

And yes, the NJ Certificate is and will be sufficient in NY even after May 2014.
