Default Sunnies on the Fly

I stopped by a local pond yesterday evening with my fly rod in the hopes of landing some hungry bluegill. I did get a few, but not without some initial frustration.

hey Lard, LOL on the video but let me assure you, you aren't the "worst fly fisherman in the world"

I could go on a long rant about my local ponds, but it would bore you.

Was killing sunnies like you were getting June/July, and also some LMB (a few real good ones). All on top water popping bugs, moving up in size to cull out the sunnies.

Then August came and it's been like someone turned off a switch. Can't buy a hit on top water. In fact, been frustrated with any flies. The only success I've had so far are powerbait worms and even those the fish are real picky.

I'm about ready to pull some bunker flies out since I'm guessing the YOY are big enough that (a) the LMB are hitting em and (b) the panfish are hiding from the LMB.

At any rate, all the "mistakes" you made are typical. It takes a few times to get in a groove and avoid trees, grass, bad knots, yada yada yada.

There is a good reason none of my fishing sessions, fly or otherwise, will make it on youtube
