Default Splitrock Res. friday 06/17

Friend and I braved the morning downfall and thunderstorms. We launched and decided to stay near the launch in case the storm got worst. My buddy hit a two pound smallie by the dam and the rain stopped. We tried the entire southern end of the lake with us only picking up two small LMB's. The sun came out for a bit, so we took the 30 min ride to the middle island and hit the cove on the left. Alot of lilly pads, so we worked them and and caught 12 LMB's. The biggest was caught by me and went 3.5. I lost what appeared to be a 5lb plus at the boat. Hit the island and area around it and caught four more LMB. All and all not a bad day. The weeds are coming up and there are lilly pads all over the place. Headed in and the skys opened up about half way to the launch. Andy, the lot and launch were free of litter only two other boats and two kayaks.

Woulda like to seen the "one that got away !"
No kidding on the 30 minute ride to the island, that's about right.

Glad to know the launch and lot were free of litter, I think more people are taking the time to clean up after themselves, thanx for the report.

There does seem to less litter than last year, but I have noticed one trend which has been annoying me... People leaving full garbage bags near the outhouse. It is great that people are not littering or even picking up the litter, but they shouldn't forget they still need to take it home.

Then again, we all know the real test will come after tomorrow (Friday 6/25) though, once the schools let out of the year. I've got my fingers crossed that RTPD/NJDEP keep better tabs on things and it does not get out of hand (swimmers, cliff diving) like it did last year.

Maybe I've seen you guys out there? In the lot, I am the black mountaineer w/ the 4" lift. On the water I was the white canoe w/ outrigger last year, this year I am a big skinny jon boat. Splitrock's my 'home water', so see you around!

I want to thank acabtp for his tireless efforts.
"I have created the Friends of Splitrock, a community group with the goal of preserving and promoting access to the Splitrock Reservoir"

This place has had more than it's fair share of ups and downs. Maybe if we pull together we as a group of fishermen can work with the public in keeping open spaces just that..........open.
