Got out to the Valley early today after spotting a few big bass there yesterday afternoon taking my son out for some sunny action.
Got out there around 6:30 this morning and the wind was honking.

Blowing right in my face from the causeway which made casting a pain in the butt and after 2 hours of no action and the sound of waves continuously crashing against the rocks making me mental I called it quits there. But I figured if the wind was in my face on that side of the causeway I'd be sheltered fishing from the swimming lake on the other side.....
Hit the other lake and not much doing for 20 minutes or so but then a whole bunch of firsts for me on the day. Immediately hooked up one of the plastic finesse worms I picked up in Florida back in February and hooked into my first ever fish on that little lake. A nice LMB, probably in the 3 LBS to 4 LBS range but I'll never know for sure as that hook-up was quickly followed up with my first ever knot-fail.
Tied up the same rig onto my new baitcaster combo and landed my first fish on that combo and landed my first fish out of that lake. A nice 2-2.5 pounder. Not done there on a 5" senko I later hooked into my first ever pickerel, all these years freshwater fishing in NJ I had never caught one before. Big sucker, must have weighed about 4 to 5 LBS. I lifted it out of the water and the teeth managed to snap my 10 LB fluorocarbon line. It landed on the shore but managed to flop itself back into the lake before I could take a picture.
A good day, with the weather I ended up making something out of nothing.
