Default 2018 Fluke and Sea Bass Regulations Set

2018 Fluke and Sea Bass Regulations Set

At the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council meeting on 4/5 the following regulations for fluke and sea bass were set. However, there may be a problem with the sea bass regulations as states to our north have filed an appeal with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and they are threatening to go out of compliance. The process is pretty complicated but they are going after a portion of New Jersey’s quota. Depending on the outcome of the appeal our sea bass regulations may or may not have to change. I will keep you posted as things develop further.
Paul Haertel, JCAA Board Member/Past President

I really wish there was 1 person on the council actually made a living fishing.

Thanks for the info. Nothing is ever easy it seems for NJ Fisheries. I hope one day common sense will be used by the powers to be. I may be wrong but, start with these draggers they are killing us with what they are getting away with. We are 1 fish away from a winter flounder quota, give me a break. My 2 cents.
Hope everyone has a safe and productive season!!!! Take the family fishing.

John

Thank you for the information Paul. I very much appreciate all your efforts to keep us informed. Speaking as a recreational angler only, I support conservation and have no particular problem with these measures.

Cool Re: 2018 Fluke and Sea Bass Regulations Set

I don't think as anglers most of us are looking to go back to the days of catch and keep everything that bites the hook although at this point it sounds like a dream come true. I believe we would like some well thought out regulations that keep the stocks in balance but also keep the industry thriving. At the moment we do not have that. The current rules most likely do more harm than good in more ways than one. I do hope this new pro sportsman administration in Washington helps us out. And as soon as possible. It's really getting totally ridicules!

I am outraged by the regs they force upon us. I throw back 90% of what I catch but I will not abide by these regulations. It's a pirate's life for me. I advise all others to do the same. F the government.
