Might be a nice ringneck, but how do you know its wild?.. There is very little documented reproduction of pheasants in NJ, and almost none in NY either.. If the pond you fished is in or close to a NJ Wildlife Mgmt area, its much more likely it was stocked at some point.. Not much breeding in the NE US,,, They are not native to the US.
