Re: Is togging slow bc water is warm or fishing sux?
thats a valid observation.. "tog weather" and the need for December water temperatures is historically out of whack.. Years ago we had spectacular black fishing in 30 FOW in september and october, and no one fished tog after November as I stated earlier.. the reason so many fishermen think tog like 40 degree water is because as the numbers of fish decreased the fish were most available later in the season as they start to congregate on deep water wrecks from shallower rocky reefs[ say 20-40 FOW].. As a younger man the only time I recall most head boats fishing in 80+ FOW in Dec and Jan, was when they were Cod fishing.. No need to go after Tog In winter as there were several other options.. Nowadays because some Tog can be caught in pretty cold water on deep wrecks, we have this "ice water tog" concept so many younger anglers embrace.. Tog are not all that much of a cold water species.. They are a temperate species that much prefers 60 degree water rather than 40 degree water... bob
