Default Bluefishing Beatdown

Hoped aboard a NS for a day of jigging. Had hoped they would concentrate on false albacore, bonito & spanish mackerel as they had a good day with all this past Thursday but that wasn’t the case. No matter.

First 20 minutes of fishing was the only bust of the day as only 1 false albacore was caught in 3 brief drifts. Made a 20 minute run and joined the fleet. A few blues were hitting the deck but it took me a few minutes to dial in the right jig. Once I did, it was game on. Boat had fast & furious action the rest of the day right up until 3 toots of the horn were blown. I easily caught between 25-30 bluefish from #4-10 and also boating one of the 6 false albacore caught. A few times we came up large areas of fish swirling and breaking water on top. A variety of jigs/lures worked. I did most of my damage with a 2 ounce Hogy Epoxy jig but also spent 2 for 3 on a Smack-It popper (took the #10 on this), a few on a sinking Coltsniper and 1 on a Hogy soft plastic. Never fished m,ore than a mile off tghe beach.
