Duff, I know that this is an older post, but three years ago I spent the coin on a skydex sea shock helm mat. It works. It has held up. It helps absorb the shocks, but it is stiff so if you want something softer you need to add some closed cell foam to it. There are details in the reviews on the amazon. It was absolutely worth it.
