ICE!! I'm begging you for the last time to PLEASE BRING ICE! I was going to post a pic of some fish in the swill water but I don't want to ruin a great report.
Too many party boat anglers are just plain cheap. They shell out money for their fare and maybe the pool. When it comes to tipping the mates, their wallets are in their other pants back in the car. Spending six or seven dollars on a few bags of ice is out of the question. You don’t have to spend a fortune for enough ice to chill 3 fluke!
It brings me to the idea that I posted a month or so ago. The Florida fishermen and party boats are accustomed to hot weather and they take appropriate measures. Many of the boats do not allow coolers onboard and provide an icy slush tank for their customers’ catch. Each keeper is assigned a numbered stringer to which the fish are attached and immersed in the slush.
On a pb in NJ, the boats could use a couple of extra large coolers to serve as ice baths for any keepers until their ultimate arrival on the fillet board. It can be done, but change comes slowly to old salts.
