You DID do the right thing. The guy I went out to tow 4 miles off Highland Bridge was not anchored and had no GPS . He ended up blown up by Ambrose approach buoys when I found him.

They we bunched up but not big. But heading south was bouncy and wet ( sounds like an old girl friend I had).
