Re: Gambler 24hr Tuna
It was a good trip. The weather is everything.
I had thought to head down to one of the southern canyons but I could not get a clear satellite temp shot and I was concerned that the water down there might have moved off the edge. I saw a small splash of good water between the Hudson and the Tom's canyon in the deep. I headed for that.
It was nearly a full moon, so we had some current and I took my time in locating the best water for the longest drift (we could not anchor because the Gambler was in nearly 2000ft.
At times, I marked fish from 50 to 200 + foot below.
Very nice conditions on the drift and Chuck summed up the action.
The crew did an awesome job of getting that big swordfish in the boat. Those swords seem to know exactly what they are doing when it comes to hitting the chines and getting wrapped in our running gear. Heavy, heavy, thick fish!
I would love to get out there one more time but we struggled to get just enough passngers to cover expenses this trip. I guess a lot of guys are hunting by now or have spent their tuna cash.
I wonder if it would be possible to get and NJfishing group together? Interested in your thoughts.
