we don't have the population NJ does up here, but still the 12 mile stretch of the Susquehanna river from Binghamaton/Vestal/Endicott/Johnson City through Owego is always trash free, and probably has 150,000 people.. Most of that population IS urban, not rural... The people simply don't throw garbage into the rivers and streams, nor all over the roads.. what is thrown gets cleaned up.. This is a "depressed economic zone".. People don't have incomes like people in NJ, and much more limited opportunities. Its not a poverty thing . Dumping garbage is simply not what people here do, but seems to be in NJ.. It was that way when I lived there for 37 years, and seems to still be so today. bob

Makes you wonder how some folks were raised? It just wasn't acceptable behavior in my family. Never thought of the roads or waterways as a trash can and don't get me started with the smokers who use the earth as their personal ash trays..remember those? they used be in cars!
