The market price of porgies just fell through the floor. I doubt if that boat will target porgies again. They just ruined the fishing for the rest of the fleet. There is no profit in fishing for a species that won't pay the bills. The co-op has the records of the catch and has to report it. Where it goes from there and what is done with the report is only conjecture. When times are tough, commercial draggers fish for what they can catch and sell. Unfortunately, their nets are indiscriminant. That indiscrimination also leads to the high mortality rates of by-catch discards. In order to avoid stiff fines for over-fishing, fish that would ordinarily be marketed are tossed back to die. The video of excess dead fluke being discarded by a commercial boat still haunts me. I'm sure someone can post that link to enlighten you.
