I have to question the assumption a released carp become uncatchable. In Europe in certain pay-lakes, they catch-and-release the same carps over-and-over again. The operation wouldn't work if they couldn't be caught again.

I read on the Internet that the guy who caught the biggest carp in England donated it to the Royal Aquarium. Whenever he would feed it, the carp would never eat the bait that he caught it on. I made > 140 NJ fresh water fishing trips in crowded public fishing areas and didn't see anybody catch a carp yet this year.
