I was just informed by one of my tackle dealers that there is an excise tax in NJ on fishing tackle made in the USA. He said he'd rather buy American made but that it's cheaper to buy from China because of the extra tax on Made in USA.
An excise tax is a tax that is often levied on "superfluous Items or unnecessary items"
