I've read where you can actually get a line from the change in water density at the thermocline, but was wondering if that applied to expensive units or if it was possible on the lowrance 3x? I remember messing with different settings like higher frequency for shallow water and the lower frequency for deep water, and I think slightly adjusting the sensitivity helped turn some blobs and blocks into actual arches, but never was able to see a thermocline (that I know of).
