Regarding the OZ size, that will depend on currents/tide/boat anchoring single/double, many factors, need to "guage as you go" like bucktailing.....Mind you I'm still newer to this game too but have learned a lot from various sharpies....Some days you just go heavy with 50lb leaders, others, down to 30lbs is more than sufficient. Your structure will also dictate what you need to use. As mentioned before, casting around is always good, sometimes you will find a ledge or hole to drop on and be ready.....As Eric calls out, on day will be the scratchy bite and you need to be on A Game, other days aggressive hits, let them bite it and then sink the hook. Snafu and slider rigs are a hole nother ball game too....I have seen a slider hook incorporated with the jig as well using a whole crab and hooks out each side of leg sockets...
