Been awhile but was able to get out yesterday with buddies Roy, Franz and Chris. Started early looking for jig stripers but had to resort to the troll (braid at least). We got 1 keeper, dropped 3 and a couple of shorts before heading around the Hook, for bottom fishing.
Hit the newer grounds. I opted for porgies and seabass which was good for the porgies while blackfishing was slow for the rest. Nice blackfish flurry started around lunch. When that died down we moved inshore where the seabass nailed the clams on most drops, porgies and triggerfish were also in the mix along with some blackfish. Blackfish really started chewin as the east wind started cranking in the late afternoon. Too bad it wasn't after Nov 16 as we only kept our 4 fish limit. Nice quality fish for all. I broke off 2 pigs at the end. Just couldn't stop them. Left when it started getting too snotty.
Once inside the bay heading to the marina we spotted working birds along the Hook and only 2 boats around. Big school of bass chasing peanut bunker. Broke out the spinners and caught numerous 26-27" bass before calling it a day. Great variety today. Just have to love fall fishing in NJ!
