Default Buzzbait bass- 9/13/15

Pond hopping all weekend. Not large bass but good numbers. Cloudy skies def helped. Next 4 weeks should be peak action of the year as fish fatten up before winter. Looking forward to days off, good fishing and NFL

On a down note, saw Water Chestnut at 4 ponds in three different counties. This stuff is nasty. It grows in large, impenetrable mattes and grows so fast. I read one acre can lead to 100 acres coverage the following year. One pond that was 2-3% covered last summer is now about 40% covered. If u look at background of pics 2 & 3 u can see all the weeds in the back. Only good thing is growing season is short - basically June thru Sept. It doesn't bother fish all that much but can block out and kill native weeds. Although those other weeds are annoying as well, they provide cover and food source for insects fish eat. Lose the weeds and you lose fish. I sent reports and photos to the state to let them know. Not much they can do except hand/rake pull it before its out of control. No natural enemies here - yet. They are working on it. If u ever see this stuff, PLEASE report it to the owners of the water - town, county, state, federal. Rutgers also has a reporting form at this address:

U can hand pull individual plants but watch out for the sharp spined nuts and make sure u remove ALL of the plant. It mostly spreads by flow and fragmentation. So if Pond "A" has it , any pond downstream will get it. Spruce Run is at risk as well as both Swartswood Lakes.
