Default Re: Yamaha Diagnostic Mechanic

I've run HPDI's for a few years now. If the boat has been sitting awhile drain the fuel +change the filters. As has been stated HPDI's are fuel sensitive. The most common filter problem I've found to be the HP filter. It's also the most expensive $90. The good news is they let you know by dropping RPM for a second intermittently for a very long time before they fail. I know people who never change this filter, but I use mine a lot and change them every other season. Yammi 4 stroke are good engines but believe they had some problems. I think it had to due with salt water entering the exhaust 2000-2007. I've heard that was a costly fix. I prefer Yamaha's but been looking around for quite a few years now and haven't found any outboards that doesn't have some kind of issue. If anybody knows of one please let me know and I'll run out and buy it today.
