Default Sat. 12/6 Russian Roulette Cbass/Porgy

Decided late in the week to take my first trip with Capt. Dennis for my favorite type of fishing...offshore bottom fishing.

Made our way out in the dark, just a little bumpy for the first 20-25 miles and then things started to clear up. Drifted a spot in 200' to see if there was life and immediately we started hooking up. Threw the anchor and started to bail the porgies. We had a few cbass come up but this was def more of a porgy and bluefish area. Stayed for an hour or so since we all like eating the dinner platter size porgies and got a good start on the death box.

Picked up and ran another 20 offshore to about 250' and threw the anchor. After a few wiggles GAME ON! Porgies all over this wreck but you could pick between the bites and wait for the cbass to get ya. Cbass up to 25 1/2", porgies on steroids and very little doggie action. Captain even pulled up a bonito without a tail (bluefish were patrolling the area).

Boat limit of cbass and porgies...would have had a limit of bluefish but threw 90% of them back only keeping a couple for the smoker.

Weather was great offshore too. Drizzled a couple times and swell was far apart. Wind started to pick up around 1:30 and by 2:30 we were on our way home. Filleting back at the dock in the rain while telling fish stories took a few hours!
Vacuum sealing begins in earnest this morning and the neighbors have already hit me up for some fresh filets!

Thanks Capt Dennis for a great day on the water!

PS...another reason I love open boat trips is that the crew I met was awesome. Multi national as we had two Russians, two from China, one from Poland and an A$$hole from Jersey (me). Shared our different cultural foods and I was given the opportunity to jump on a charter later in the month with one of the crew. Fishing buddies are made on these trips and the experience we get to share are remembered for a long time.
