Default Re: NOAA data buoys are all up and running

For those of you not familar with what all this data means here are some explanations for you from this buoy http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=44065

Wind Direction - Which way the winds are coming out of so if west, the winds are coming from the west and blowing to the east.

Dominant Wave Period - The number of seconds between the tallest or dominat waves

Avg Wave Period - the number of seconds between all waves, not just the dominant ones.

Mean Wave Direction - which way the waves are moving.

The longer the wave periods the further the waves are apart so longer periods are better. Shorter wave periods means short, tight and choppy sea.

This information along with Wind Guru predictions for the future and the beach cams are good things to look at when you are planning a trip.
