Took advantage of the beautiful fall like weather yesterday and worked over a familiar stretch of river. Started off throwin the frog again, trying to redeem myself. Not even 20 throws in the frog gets hammered. Put a solid hook set on em and fought em for a sec. Just long enough to see a FOOTBALL smallie break the surface, headshake, and spit it on me.........
After that the frog went promptly back in the box and I started throwin the usuals. Picked up one pike in the low 20s soon after which helped a little, but not much. About an hour later while reeling in a cast I get slammed boatside. Rod bends and drag starts peeling!!!! Knew it was a good fish but wasn't sure how good until it went fully airborne 2 feet in front of me!!
Finally got em in the net and removed a destroyed lure from his jaw. Quick measure looked like a hair away from 36"........ After that, I forgot all about the big smallie I lost earlier, lol........
