I guess you could do it that way, but if it's already dead, it kind of takes away the point entering it as a catch-and-release. They may not accept it if it looks dead.
The issue I had with the Catch & Release Skillful Angler Award is not only do they want a picture of the fish next to a ruler, but they also want a picture of the fish with you at the location it was caught.
I caught a 24-inch Chain Pickerel earlier this summer. I took a picture of it next to a ruler and released it only to find out I needed another picture of it with me at the location it was caught.
And I had to specify the pond I caught it in.
That's too much disclosure for my tastes.
