Re: Blackfish trip in OC, MD on 5/9 and 5/10
Was invited to fish 2 days in Maryland in search of becoming a member of the elusive 20 lb club.
Day 1 we headed out with our crew of Donald (Charter Master), his friend Jerry, Dave (DROD), Kurt (kurtisb) and myself. Game plan was to head into deeper water looking for double digit fish. Fished in about 100 ft most of the day. Kurt had the hot hand early putting a few keepers in the box. Highlight of the tri[p was when Donald put his PB on the deck that measured out at 30 inches and 18 lbs. This is exactly why us tog finatics drive hundred of miles and spend a lot of dollars for the chance of a fish like this. As you can see from the picture he was one happy camper and well deserving as he has put in his time to earn a fish like this. Had to cut trip short as Captain lost two anchors putting us on the sticky stuff. Even though we completed more than 3/4 of our trip in captain only charged us half price for the day. Greatly appreciated his gesture. Ended the trip with 18 keepers up to 18 lbs for the boat.
Day 2
Crew consisted of Donald (Charter Master), his friend Jerry, myself and new togger Charles who got to see why togging can be a humbling experience. With forecast not looking very favorable for the long run captain made the choice to stay in closer. Fished in around 60 ft of water most of the day. Picky action most of the days with some nice flurries mixed in. I ended with six keepers and a total of 18 keepers for the day for the boat. Donald had big fish honors again with about a 7 pounder fishing his egg sinker slider rig that you see the RI guys fish that produced pool winners on both days.
I would rank fishing as OK both days. Had a great time fishing with some old friends as well as meeting a few new ones. Never surprises me how fisherman who are total strangers can come together on trips like this and become longtime good friends. The chance of the that one big fish made it all worth it and what keeps us coming back
