The problem with used handhelds are the batteries. You'll notice that after several discharge and recharge cycles the ones with older nicad batteries will not hold a charge for very long. For this reason I would bite the bullet and buy new and would only consider used if it had a lithium not a nicad battery. Lithium batteries are much better and will take more recharging cycles.
