If you are just dropping down, OK. If you are pitching, flipping from a PB or especially casting with any conventional you should/could need cast control. I wont buy a reel without it. I do a lot of casting with conventional, even surf fishing, and I don't care how smart you think your thumb is. When your thumb gets stupid, and you get a bad backlash with braid, your screwed. Agreed Fishfish. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer and in the middle of a blitz of breaking fish I'll loose my mind and thumb control in the excitement. Now I'm out of the game digging at a birds nest at worst possible time. Cast control makes casting almost a no brainier.
