This is what you tell your wife.
" Hi Honey just want to let you know that I am going fishing on Jan 5th and you need to go to your moms 80th birthday on your own. This is not open for discussion as I wear the pants in the family and my decision is final"
I should be home by around 9:00 pm as me and the guys will be stopping at the go -go bar after the trip for some drinks and Lap dances. Just make sure you are back home by then greeting me at the door wearing something sexy. .
That is the approach I would take but I am not married so it may go in a different direction for you.
