Do any of you own an Avet and after a while the clicker seems to be hard to engage or disengage or it stops clicking all together? Pulled all the stuff off the boat the other day and figured I would look into one of my SXs that had a stiff clicker button and would not engage. Before I went and did my backyard mechanic thing, I decided to call Avet and get some advice. I spoke to one of their customer service people and he walked me through it over the phone.
- First thing to do is put the reel drag in strike... This parks the spool and shaft which is important since it makes it easier to line up the spool shaft when you go to reassemble the reel.
- The side plate with reel handle is very easy to take off. Remove the 3 Phillips head screws. These are the ones without the black plastic stoppers on them that act as a stop for the level drag, you do not need to remove those 2.
- Once the 3 screws are out, the side plate with the reel handle will come out of the reel body along with the spool and this exposes the inside of the other side plate where the clicker parts are.
- There are 2 mechanisms here you need to pay some attention to. The clicker itself which is 2 metal dogs with springs that keep the dogs on the gears of the reel spool which makes the clicks and the button that moves up it up and down to engage and disengage the dogs.
- On my reel the dogs were difficult to move from side to side so I put some reel oil on them and worked them by hand to free them up.
- The button mechanism was also tight so some more oil and working the button up and down cured that.
- Reassemble the reel and you are done.
- If this does not free things up and get your clicker back in working order, you'll need to dig deeper and this is a deep as I wanted to go.
