Hi! Can't wait to get back out on the Mimi! I did, but didn't give them hell last night - they are already in it. They did approve the resolution to not grant 4x4 access permits. They sighted dune construction, access cut throughs, other safety issues and the design of the dunes. ACOE planned 22' high and 200 feet deep dunes which with slopes, would not allow for a size able and level plane for a vehicle to navigate. While I did agree for now (the spring season) due to clean ups and repair to accept the merit of this decision, I did argue that these safety issues would also apply to beach goers and access areas with the cut throughs. Harding avenue and the 4x4 ramp in Ortley was a site of breach during the storm. Of course they dont want to give up beach badge revenues and I also agree, especially when revenues will be so important to fill the hole with the 20% loss of our tax base. One of my problems last night in comment to the Council was the exclusion of a specific user group, us 4 wheelers. Instead of accepting the intent of my comments and reasoning, the Council President decided to use the opportunity to make it sound like, and pit the Ortley beach home owners against me, in that my fishing was more important than the restoration of the dunes and the protection of the Ortley residents homes. Rather disgraceful and shameful political spin/bullshit. They, the Council, dont like me much - oh well. A member of the NJ Beach Buggy Association (I dont remember his name -sorry) also commented and asked the council to consider permits for the fall season. We will see?
Something I forgot to mention. This issue gets some interest on this site, while almost no response another site. Cant figure out why? This has much more implications than just 4x4 beach access in Toms River. This is an example of the complexity and severity of, and the eventual loss of our fishing rights!
