Hit MCR Saturday, midday, from the shore. I know--horrible time to start fishing but I fished elsewhere early Saturday AM with a fat goose egg to show for it (Riegelsville, NJ area of the Big D). Fished a few hours with one rock bass on a senko--very frustrating. Saw some nice fish cruising but they wanted no part of anything I threw their ways. Headed back to car with my friend--pissed and downtrodden. I then go "I wanna take a few casts by the boat launch". Years ago, my father and I used to fish MCR by boat and I always remembered seeing nice fish by the boat launch every so often as it's deep and weedy. So I rig up a new senko and start fan casting the cove by the boat launch. About my 5th cast in, as I let my 5 inch pumpkinseed senko sink, I feel a VERY subtle bump-bump and some decent almost-dead weight. Tip down, I slowly reel tight and drive the hook home. A few short minutes later I landed the toad below. Certainly made the day much more bearable
